The Society was founded in 1977 and is a member of the Family History Federation. As a registered charity our aim is to educate and inform about family history with a focus on Hertfordshire.
The Society is run entirely by unpaid volunteers and the benefits of membership include an annual programme of family history related talks, access to exchange journals from other societies, opportunity to be involved in projects and a quarterly colour journal in electronic or print format. Please note that the Society does not hold any original records relating to family history in Hertfordshire. The principal legal deposit for Hertfordshire records is Hertfordshire Archives.
We welcome new volunteers to our Committee as there are always a variety of roles which we would welcome assistance with. You do not need to live in Hertfordshire to be a member of the Society or a member of the Committee. All our Committee meetings are held online and we meet on a quarterly basis. If you are interested in joining the committee please contact the Chair.
